Golf enthusiasts and followers of the sport have every reason to be excited as the United States Golf Association (USGA) recently announced the formation of the inaugural U.S. National Junior Team. This landmark development marks a significant step towards bolstering the future of American golf by showcasing the talents of 18 promising young athletes—10 girls and 8 boys. The USGA’s vision extends further, aiming to expand the National Junior Team to include 60 players, split evenly between boys and girls, over the next three years. This initiative is a cornerstone of the U.S. National Development Program, which was launched with the ambitious goal of ensuring that American golf remains at the forefront of the global stage.
The introduction of the U.S. National Junior Team heralds a new era in the development of golf talent in the United States. By focusing on six key pillars—talent identification, access to competition, national teams, athlete resources, player development, relations, and athlete financial support—the program aims to sculpt the next generation of golf legends. Chris Zambri, the head coach of the U.S. National Development Program, expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating that it represents a major milestone in the USGA’s commitment to nurturing American athletes and maintaining the country’s leadership in junior, amateur, and professional golf.
U.S. National Junior Team
The roster of the U.S. National Junior Team reads like a who’s who of upcoming golf prodigies. Among the boys, we have talents like Blades Brown from Nashville, Tennessee, and Phillip Dunham from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, showcasing the geographical diversity and depth of talent within the team. The girls’ team features rising stars such as Shyla Brown from McKinney, Texas, and Gianna Clemente from Estero, Florida, each bringing their unique skills and dedication to the forefront of American golf.
These young athletes were selected through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by a selection committee of the U.S. National Development Program staff. Criteria for selection include a comprehensive assessment of each player’s scoring, results, statistics, rankings, sportsmanship, and scouting reports. The team will undergo bi-annual training camps and represent the United States in international competitions, starting with a friendly match against Australia in the summer of 2024. The first of these training camps is scheduled to take place at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, from May 8-11.

Currently, seven states are active participants, intending to engage all 50 states by 2033.
